Viking - Sunnyside 2011

Swimming lessons

Picture
Viking and Sunnyside Pools both offer fully certified Olympic Way swimming lessons. Olympic Way lessons focus mainly on developing the four strokes; butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke and front crawl at a competitive level while keeping it fun for the children. There are nine skill levels in the Olympic Way; White, Yellow, Green, Red, Blue, Bronze, Silver, Gold and Junior Guard. Each level becomes progressively more advanced, making sure that your child will be constantly challenged.

Viking and Sunnyside offer 30 minute long swimming lessons every morning from 8:30 - 11:30, Monday through Thursday. This year there will also be night time lessons available at Sunnyside*. The summer is split up into two sessions of four weeks, giving the child the chance to move up into a higher level half way through the summer. After each four week session, there are report cards for the children highlighting their strengths and weaknesses. Registration for swimming lessons will be available on Blitz Day May 15th 2011, our annual registration day. There is also the option of signing up later, but due to our large number of members, we cannot guarantee that you will get your preferred time if you choose this option.

If your child or children have been previously enrolled in another type of swimming lesson and you are unsure of what level they should be signed up in, please consult the table below to ensure they will be placed correctly.

* Schedule will vary based on interest and demand

Leaders

Picture
Leaders provides a chance for young teens to get involved in the pool and learn the ropes of being a lifeguard. The program includes many activities that focus on leadership while giving the teens a club like atmosphere where they can meet others their age and learn what it's like to be a leader. Being older than most of the other children at the pool, the leaders are given a chance to help out with maintenance and events if they wish.

Throughout the summer, there a special events like movie nights and fundraisers put on by the leaders to raise money for their end of summer outing. Every year, at the end of the summer, the leaders can use their fundraising money and either have a free trip/dinner downtown in a limo, a day at La Ronde or many other fun activities.

Leaders meet once or twice a week depending on the schedule and guarantees a great experience for your children, teaching them responsibility and how to lead.
